Governing Body For Home Care Associations & HCOs: The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) www.cdss.ca.gov/cdssweb
Governing Law: The Home Care Services Consumer Protection Act of 2015 (HCSCPA). All HCO Home Care Aid (HCA) employees are required to be state registered. The CDSS maintains and continuously updates this public registry. Consumers have access to this registry to verify HCA registration.

Hospice agencies provide care and support for an individual facing a life-limiting illness and their family. Their services are paid for by Medicare, MEDI-CAL, and most private insurers.

Governing Law: Division 2, Chapter 8 of the California Health and Safety Code (sections 1725-1742). All HHA’s are licensed by the state/or certified by their respective professional supervisory organizations.

Some Health Agencies provide care on both a shift and visit basis, while others offer only visits.
Medicare Certified Home Health Agencies have met all the Federal standards required for providing care to Medicare clients and accept Medicare payment. Medicare clients must be homebound and require a skilled medical need under a physicians’ orders.
Medicare Certified HHAs generally provide care on a visit basis rather than with long shifts.
